AI-powered remote internship platform connecting students, companies and universities
A three-sided platform where students build verified profiles, companies hire interns through intelligent matching, and universities can see every placement as it happens.

- Education
Aetarna set out to make remote internships work for everyone involved: students looking for real project experience, companies looking for capable interns, and universities responsible for placement outcomes.
We designed and built the full platform: a student portal, a company hiring workspace, a university dashboard and a platform administration console, all running on one secure backend.
The challenge
Internship hiring is scattered across email, spreadsheets and job boards. Students apply blind, companies sift through mismatched applicants, and universities chase updates by hand.
Remote internships add more friction: scheduling across calendars, judging candidates before meeting them, and keeping track of interns the company never sees in person.
The platform had to serve four user types with very different needs and strict data boundaries. A university sees only its own students, and a company sees only its own pipeline.
The solution
What we built
We built an intelligent, end-to-end internship lifecycle platform, from discovery through to completion.
Intelligent candidate matching
A multi-factor match-scoring engine ranks students for each internship by skills coverage, proficiency, domain, department and role fit, and profile strength. Hard eligibility filters run first, so the shortlist only contains candidates who can actually take the role.
Explainable recommendations
Every match comes with a score breakdown and a skill-gap analysis showing which skills are covered and which are missing. Recruiters can see why a candidate was recommended instead of trusting a black box.
Profile intelligence
Weighted completion scoring places each profile in a tier (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Elite) and tells students exactly what to add next to rank higher.
Video pitch studio
An in-browser recorder with a guided, time-coded outline helps students record a one-minute pitch that companies can watch before an interview.
Automated interview scheduling
Students set their availability once. Companies book slots that sync with Google Calendar and Meet, and candidates confirm or propose a new time inside the platform.
Structured hiring pipeline
A visual board (Interviewing, Offered, Hired) with structured interview feedback, a guided offer builder and an admin approval step before any offer reaches a student.
Lifecycle check-ins
Pre-internship, weekly and completion feedback from both sides keeps remote internships on track.
University visibility
A real-time dashboard covering students on the platform, students placed, students currently in internships and the companies hiring them, plus student and document verification.
Granular access control
Role-based and ownership-based permissions across every endpoint keep each organisation’s data isolated.
Planned: the AI roadmap
Capabilities on the roadmap for the next phases of the platform:
- Semantic skill matching using embeddings
- Résumé parsing with NLP
- AI-generated feedback summaries for interviews and check-ins
- Recommendations that learn from hiring outcomes
The outcome
What changed afterwards
- Better matches, fasterRecruiters start from a ranked, explainable shortlist instead of an unfiltered applicant list.
- Less adminScheduling, offers and feedback run in one workflow, with no email chains.
- Trust on all sidesVerified students, reviewed offers and isolated data for each organisation.
- Placement data in real timeUniversities track outcomes without chasing students.
The stack
A React and TypeScript front end built with Vite and Tailwind CSS, on a Node.js and Express API with Prisma and PostgreSQL. JWT authentication with role-based access control protects every endpoint, and Google Calendar and Meet integration powers interview scheduling.
